Mission

The mission of the Indiana Arts Education Network (IAEN) is to ensure that every Indiana student has reliable access to a well-rounded education that includes music and the arts.

Vision

The Indiana Arts Education Network has a vision for every Indiana child to reach their full potential so they will be equipped to lead successful lives and help make Indiana the best place in the country to live and work.

Board of Directors

The first meeting of the Indiana Arts Education Network was held during Drum Corps International (DCI) Championships in August of 2016. Initially, led by Mark Goff (past chairman of NAMM), a steering committee representing local arts organizations was assembled to mobilize a statewide coalition of partners that would use a collective voice in support of IAEN’s mission.

In September 2025, IAEN is now officially a 501(C6) supported by members from across the state.

Objectives

1. Establish and maintain an effective state level music & arts education network that leads state advocacy activities and offers training, information, and support for advocates at the state level.

 

2. Establish and maintain an effective district level music & arts education advocacy network that leads local advocacy activities and offers training, information, and support for advocates at the local district level.

 

3. Develop and maintain positive relationships with people who have influence over education policy, funding, and implementation.

 

4. Develop organizational capacity to consistently carry on IAEN activities for the long-term.

Meet IAEN Leadership and Board

Tim Cox
Executive Director

Mr. Cox is a 1988 graduate of Fort Wayne Northrop High School and a 1993 graduate of Ball State University, where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Music Education with a minor in Jazz Studies. I completed my Master of Music in Conducting at Ball State University in 2001.


Currently, he serves as the Director of Educational Outreach on the Education and Advocacy Team at Music for All, a national nonprofit organization. In this role, Mr. Cox support schools across the country and present at state music education association conferences. Prior to this, he served the Indianapolis Public Schools as a Fine Arts Program Manager after retiring from full-time teaching. In that position, he guided the district’s transition from a K–8 / 9-12 model to a restructured configuration featuring K–5 elementary schools opened seven 6–8 middle schools, while maintaining four 9–12 high schools. I also helped secure $6.5 million in new equipment and curriculum materials, led curriculum revisions, and supported Fine Arts programming districtwide.


During the Bands of America marching band season, Mr. Cox serves as one of the field operations managers at events nationwide.


Mr. Cox's teaching career began in 1993 as Director of Bands at Pendleton Heights High School and continued at Decatur Central High School in Indianapolis, where he spent a combined 30 years in education. Under my leadership, the Decatur Central Bands were selected for Indiana State Marching Band Finals, Indiana Jazz State Finals, Indoor Percussion State Finals, and Winter Guard State Finals. The DCHS Jazz Ensemble (2001, 2020) and Percussion Ensemble (2018) performed at the Indiana Music Educators Conference. The program also appeared in high-profile national events including the Indianapolis 500 Parade, the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade, the Fiesta Bowl Parade, and the Disney World Parade (twice), as well as the Sugar Bowl, where they were named Grand Champions.


Mr. Cox's professional honors include being named MSD Decatur Township Teacher of the Year (2018), IMEA High School Teacher of the Year (2018), and one of Indiana’s Top 25 Teachers. In 2017, he was recognized by SBO Magazine as one of the “50 Band Directors Who Make a Difference.” Mr. Cox also served nine years on the Indiana State School Music Association State Board and as an officer for District II of the Indiana Bandmasters Association.

 

Tim is a member of Phi Beta Mu. and President of the Indiana Wind Symphony which is one of six resident companies of the Payne & Mencias Palladium at the Allied Solutions Center for the Performing Arts.

Joshua Simonds
Board of Directors

Joshua Simonds presently serves as the Executive Director of the Percussive Arts Society, the world's largest percussion membership organization boasting more than 7,000 members. In this capacity, Joshua assumes leadership over various key facets, including the organization's flagship event, PASIC, 80 PAS chapters worldwide, 16 standing committees, and until recently, the Rhythm! Discovery Center, the sole interactive drum and percussion museum globally, located in Indianapolis, Indiana.


Before his tenure at PAS, Joshua held the role of Executive Director at the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras, where he worked from 2003 to 2016. Under his guidance, CYSO experienced significant growth, doubling its programs, fostering collaborations with renowned composers leading to world and local premieres, and initiating groundbreaking artistic partnerships. Collaborations included performances with notable figures such as Ben Folds, My Morning Jacket, The Second City, My Brightest Diamond, Glenn Kotche, Third Coast Percussion, the Chicago Bulls, and multiple appearances at the prestigious rock music festival, Lollapalooza.


Joshua earned his Master of Arts in Arts Management from American University in Washington, DC, and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Percussion from California State University, Long Beach.

Randy W. Greenwell
Vice President

Randy began his tenure as Executive Director of the Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA Inc.) on July 1, 2025 after thirty-two years as a music educator (all in Indiana) and 9 years in the music business industry as an Educational Support Manager and Educational Clinician for Conn Selmer Inc.


Mr. Greenwell taught instrumental music in three school districts in Indiana; Winamac School Corporation (1985-86), Yorktown School Corporation (1986-1993), and the Metropolitan School District of Lawrence Township (1993-2016.)


Randy’s ensembles achieved the highest standards of excellence, particularly during his time at Lawrence Central High School, where they were four-time ISSMA Class A State Marching Band Champions, five-time ISSMA State Concert Band Champions, and two-time Bands of America Grand National Champions. His wind ensembles were selected to perform at the Music for All National Concert Festival on two separate occasions, and his ensembles performed at numerous Indiana Music Educator Association conferences throughout his tenure.


The Lawrence Central Marching Band was a consistent finalist at all ISSMA state competitions and Bands of America Grand National Championships, and appeared in two National Tournament of Roses Parades, one Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, one Fiesta Bowl Parade, and numerous appearances at the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade and Hollywood Christmas Parades. In 2001, the Lawrence Central High School Marching Band was awarded the Sousa Foundation’s Sudler Shield for outstanding national achievement in the marching arts.


Mr. Greenwell served on the ISSMA State Board for many years, and was ISSMA State Board President in 2001. Mayor Bart Peterson proclaimed Randy a Distinguished Citizen of the City of Indianapolis in 2001.


Randy is an active member of Phi Beta Mu, and was elected to their Band Director Hall of Fame in 2018. He received the Outstanding Indiana Band Director Award from Phi Beta Mu in 2001. Music for All/Bands of America inducted Greenwell into the Hall of Fame in 2018, and he received the National Federation of High School’s Outstanding Music Educator Award in 2022, as well as the Indianapolis Wind Symphony James Calvert Outstanding Music Educator Award in 2023. Greenwell was inducted into the Conn Selmer Institute Hall of Fame in 2024.


Randy currently serves as Music Director and Conductor of the Greater Greenwood Community Band (since 2018), and serves as an Adjunct Professor and Director of Instrumental Activities and Head of Brass Studio at Franklin College in Franklin, Indiana. In addition to these responsibilities, Mr. Greenwell serves at the Chief Judge/Coordinator for the Florida Color Guard Circuit Marching Band events.


Mr. Greenwell has adjudicated for over forty years, including DCI, BOA, WGI and ISSMA. He continues to guest conduct honor bands across the country and present on relevant music education topics at regional and national music conferences throughout the United States.

Michael Kamphuis
President

Michael Kamphuis is the Senior Vice President of the Division of Education at Conn Selmer, an Elkhart, Indiana–based musical instrument manufacturer. Appointed to this role in May 2025, he leads a multifaceted global education and marketing team dedicated to creating meaningful opportunities for the music industry and music education to collaborate in support of music learning worldwide.


Throughout his career, Michael has held numerous leadership roles across Sales, Marketing, and Product Management within the band and orchestra sector. His past positions include Product Manager for Flutes and Brass, Director of Marketing for Brass, and Senior Director of Product Marketing overseeing all band and orchestra categories. In 2013, he became Managing Director
of Conn Selmer’s Division of Education, helping establish key initiatives shaped by the vision of Dr. Tim Lautzenheiser. In September 2023, he was appointed Vice President of Sales and Marketing, leading Sales, Education, Marketing, and Customer Service across the Americas. After building a strengthened leadership structure in these areas, he was appointed Vice President of Education in January 2025 and then promoted to Senior Vice President, Division of Education in May 2025, expanding his oversight across Conn Selmer’s global education and marketing platforms.


Michael is deeply engaged in arts advocacy and leadership across multiple organizations. He currently serves as President of the Indiana Arts Education Network, leading statewide efforts to advance arts education policy and access. He is also a board member of the Kalamazoo Junior Symphony Orchestra (KJSO) and an Advisory Board Member for United Sound, a nonprofit supporting inclusive music education for students with disabilities as well as the NAMM SupportMusic Coalition. In addition, he serves on the Board of Directors for Cut Time LLC, contributing industry expertise to this music education technology company.


His advocacy work extends nationally as a NAMM delegate since 2013 for Indiana and Michigan, where he participates in annual lobbying efforts in Washington, D.C., contributing to successes such as the passage of the Every Student Succeeds Act in 2015. 


Michael’s contributions to the arts and music education community have been recognized with several honors, including the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Elkhart Jazz Festival and the Distinguished Service Award from the HBCU National Band Directors Consortium (2016), the Distinguished Alumni Award for Achievement from the University of Wisconsin–Parkside (2018), Conn Selmer Institute Hall of Fame (2019) and honorary membership in both the Minority Band Directors National Association and the HBCU National Band Directors Consortium (2021). In 2022, he received Conn Selmer’s President’s Award.

Jennifer Witt
Secretary

Jennifer Witt is the Senior Marketing Manager for Institutional Sales at Sweetwater, one of the nation's largest music technology and instrument retailers. In her role, she develops strategic initiatives to expand Sweetwater’s presence and reach audiences in the music education, house of worship, and non-profit sectors. She plays a key role in strategic partnerships, such as Sweetwater’s collaboration with Music for All and Bands of America, aimed at strengthening music education programs nationwide.

Over the course of her thirty-year career in marketing, media relations, and non-profit leadership, Jennifer has developed marketing campaigns and strategy for a broad range of industries, including foodservice, office and classroom furniture, public and transportation seating, as well as arts outreach organizations and religious institutions. 

Before transitioning fully into music industry marketing in 2021, Jennifer was immersed in music education. Until 2023, she served as an Adjunct Professor of Flute at Mount Saint Mary’s University, performed with the Frederick Flute Choir, and worked prior to that as a Flute Instructor and Marching Band Clinician at Penn Harris Madison Schools.

 

Her hands-on experience inspiring students in the classroom and serving as a musician in worship venues gives her a unique perspective in her marketing work, allowing her to authentically connect with audiences, share what matters to them, and help grow their programs and ministries.

Jennifer’s contributions to both music education and marketing have been recognized throughout her career. She has received numerous accolades for her dedication to the arts and her innovative approach to marketing within the music industry. Her passion for music, education, and ministry continues to drive her work at Sweetwater, where she is committed to ensuring that musicians, educators, and worship leaders have the resources they need to change lives through the transforming power of music.

Mariel Greenlee
Board of Directors

Mariel Greenlee is the founder and Artistic Director of the Indy Dance Council.

 

Moving from NYC, to join Dance Kaleidoscope in 2005 as a professional contemporary dancer for 15years, she went on to join their Board of Directors for 6 years and is now chair of the Education Committee. She continues her artistic work as a freelance choreographer and teaching artist, specializing in ballet, contemporary, Graham technique, musical theater dance, and stage movement.

 

She has choreographed more than 100 professional works for: Dance Kaleidoscope, Indianapolis Ballet, Indiana Repertory Theater, Summer Stock Stage, American Lives Theater, Summit Theater,
Civic Theater, Pittsburgh Public, is a proud member of Indy Shakes, and more.

 

She remains dedicated to elevating the profile of dance in Indy and the surrounding region.

Jalissa Gascho
Board of Directors

Ms. Jalissa Gascho, she is Manager of Artist Relations and Education for Yamaha Corporation of America. Through her role in Artist Relations, she engages in many facets of the industry by managing band & orchestral artist endorsements and relationships, facilitating the Yamaha Young Performing Artists Competition and Celebration Weekend, overseeing Artist Relations educational initiatives, producing films and concerts, and more. She joined Yamaha Corporation of America’s team in Indianapolis in 2012, after graduating from Taylor University with a degree in Music Marketing.

 

A passionate advocate for inclusion, equity, and the celebration of diversity through the arts, she has served on the Board of Directors of ArtSpeak, the Board of Advisors for the Harrison Center’s
Independent Music and Arts Festival, and as a mentor for the North American Saxophone Alliance’s Gender Equity Committee mentoring program. In her spare time, Jalissa enjoys attending shows at local venues, cheering on the Indy Eleven, University of Michigan football, and Detroit Red Wings, reading, and running.
